We are very saddened to learn that Dr. Boh C Tsai passed away on Friday, October 16, 2015, after his more than decade-long battle with cancer.

Dr. Tsai was an important contributor and close friend of GLCACS (Chinese-American Chemical Society – the Great Lakes Chapter). He was one of the founders of GLCACS in 1997, he served as the second president of GLCACS in 1998, and he was a longtime leader and supporter for the organization, which greatly helped building a strong foundation for the development of GLCACS since then. He had given presentations as an invited speaker for multiple times in GLCACS annual conferences, including the most recent one in May 2015, titled “The Journey to Consulting and Packaging Hall of Fame”, which was one of the best lectures we had.

In Dr. Tsai’s distinguishing career as a chemist in the past 37 years, he had made significant contributions to the science, the industry and the society. He has been a pioneer in barrier plastic packaging and has made major contributions to the field of shelf stable foods. He was inducted into the prestigious Packaging Hall of Fame in the leading packaging industry organization in 2014. In the 44 years’ history of the Packaging Hall of Fame, he is the only Chinese American among the 160 honorees.

We wish to express our deep sorrow for this loss and sympathy to Dr. Tsai’s family and friends.
